  • About Us | Anuaikidoclub

Welcome to ANU Aikido Club. Our training focus on important aikido principles emphasising, harmony, discipline, yin/yang, ki and the connection between mind, body, and spirit. We aim to carry those principles into every class with our goal of creating a supportive environment where students can learn and develop through consistent practice. Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art focused on blending with movement and redirecting energy rather than meeting force with force. Through consistent training students develop awareness, confidence, the ability to feel and extend ki and learn to centre. We believe mastering the fundamentals is important as these are the basis from which to build Aikido skill. Our classes are open to all experience levels, from complete beginners to experienced aikido students. Regardless of whether you are training for self developmental, to learn genuine self defence, improve your fitness or learn how to connect better to the world around you, we aim to provide a welcoming and respectful place to learn and train together. Tamara Abed Instructor Tamara’s love of horses brought her to Aikido after learning the riding principles of softness, mindfulness and centering all relate to Aikido. Tamara loves the flow of the ki and the power of centering whilst delivering effective techniques. Tamara regularly trains in Japan at both Hombu dojo and other centres, where she is well regarded. Students in her class can expect a continuation of the principles and techniques learned from Turnbull Sensei whilst adding an extra dimension from her training in Japan. Her favourite quote is ‘Technique has its place but spiritual forging is far more important’ (Yamaoka Tesshu).
